Adjacent consonants are two consonants that are side by side in a word. This can make them harder to sound out and spell. Sometimes these letters are called a consonant blend - you say each consonant quickly, so their sounds blend together.

These activities introduce consonant blends and word endings. Cut out the race track pieces. Each piece has a consonant blend and a word ending. The consonant blend is blue. The word ending is green. Piece together the puzzle to build a race track and reveal the hidden words. These activities have also been designed for handwriting practice.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.2.B Orally produce single-syllable words by blending sounds (phonemes), including consonant blends.
